The Wonderful World Wide Web
World Wide Web
World Wide Web ( w w w or The Web in short), actually where you are reading this article now, is used every day by millions of people around the world for everything from checking weather and news, ordering food, chatting with friends to sharing information, starting an organisation and more. We use it from our computers, mobile phones, smartwatches even from our cars during the journey. It’s just there — all around us, all the time.
INTERNET vs WEB
Most of the people often use the names ‘Internet’ and ‘World Wide Web’ interchangeably. But actually, they are two different things. The Internet is a complex network of networks. The Internet consists of the whole infrastructure that connects all our computers in order to share and exchange data. The Internet enables a computer to communicate with other computers. This communication is used for file transfer, emails, and many other things. The most common use of the internet is for accessing the World Wide Web.
So we can say that ‘The internet is an infrastructure of networks while the world wide web is a service built on top of the infrastructure’.
“The Internet is the backbone of the web, the technical infrastructure that makes the web possible” — Aaron Titus

WHAT IS THE WEB ?
“The World Wide Web, commonly known as the web, is information where documents and other web resources are identified by Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) which may be interlinked by hypertext and are accessible over the Internet. The resources of the Web are transferred via the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and may be accessed by users by a software approach called a web browser and are published by a software application called a web server”
Web resources may be any type of downloadable media like text, images or videos, etc. But the web pages are hypertext media that have been formatted to Hypertext Markup Language (HTML). Such formatting allows for embedded hyperlinks that contain URLs and permit the user to navigate to other web resources in a multi-linear fashion which, actually creates a form of a web of information.
WHO OWNS THE WEB?
The answer is, it is not owned by anyone or we can say it belongs to everyone who uses it. Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web, a hypermedia platform that harnesses the power of the internet to connect anything together — people, files, ideas, communities.
Although Tim Berners-Lee is the father of The Web, he does not own it. In fact, The Web is an open-source, de-centralized entity in which anyone can contribute.
WHY IS THE WEB IMPORTANT ?
The World Wide Web opened up the internet to everyone, not just for some scientists. It connected the world in a way that is not possible before and made it much easier for people to get information, share, and communicate.
The Web isn’t just a cool place to connect with friends and share information. It is literally changing the way we live our lives, the way we stay connected with friends and family, the way we find the answers to tricky questions, the way we connect with our communities. It has changed the way we work, play, and exists.
